Many of my nutrition clients are initially confused about what exactly the ingredients in their dog’s food are made from. One set of ingredients that are particularly confusing are meat meal, animal byproduct meal, or poultry meal. Each of these “meals” are produced from either mammals such as cattle, goat, sheep, pig or other mammals or poultry like chicken or turkey. Last week my 14 year old dog had a fall and couldn’t get herself back on her feet. By the time I got to her, she was distressed and had overworked her hind limbs trying to get up.
