Dog massage improves circulation.

Dog circulatory system and the benefits of canine massage

02 Feb, 2016

The heart is the most vital organ for life. Without the heart pumping blood around the body there is no life. Massage positively impacts how the circulatory system works and as such is beneficial for all dogs, not just those with injuries or in poor health.

Canine massage benefits dog’s cardiovascular system

Massage increases circulation and helps the body work in harmony by:

  • Delivering nutrients – By stimulating the circulatory system, massage improves the delivery and uptake of nutrients from the digestive system into the muscles and organs. New blood also carries oxygen to rejuvenate the body.
  • Releasing waste – Improving circulation stimulates the lymphatic system to help release metabolic waste and toxins from muscle fibres and organs. It assists to eliminate waste from around the joints so that joints move smoothly, without pain or stiffness.
  • Delivering hormones – The circulatory system as a transport mechanism to deliver hormones to the organs.
  • Lubricating the fascia – Improved circulation lubricates the fascia (the fascia is fibrous connective tissue directly under the skin) so muscles can be released to work properly. When the fascia is dry, it can restrict muscle movement and cause stiffness.

So you can see how massage is a proactive way to maintain overall health as well as preventing muscle adhesions and fibrosis.
